Re-imagining Orthoses treatment for Scoliosis patients.
Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to ‘bend, twist and rotate’ which impacts upon the mobility and wellbeing of people with the condition. This is most commonly treated through thick unsightly braces that have largely remained unchanged for decades.
Re_Form responds to long-standing scoliosis treatment compliance issues through the design and creation of customisable orthoses (braces) leveraging co-design and algorithmic design methods. The customisation algorithm produces 3D printable braces for both FDM and Multi-material manufacturing.
For this project I created a proprietary parametric algorithm and interface to show how medical wearables will be customisable in the future. I also experimented with multi-material 3D printing techniques to create improved wearables.
